Inflatable Dock Shelter Repair Restores Effective Sealing

Stertil Stokvis has completed a large-scale dock shelter refurbishment at a busy distribution facility in Derbyshire, restoring effective sealing across multiple loading bays.

The site was experiencing issues with its inflatable dock shelters, which were no longer sealing effectively around trailers. Incorrectly specified head and side curtains – following repair work carried out by a third party - were placing excessive pressure on the air bags during operation, leading to wear and air loss.

As a result, gaps formed around the trailer, exposing the loading bays to weather, heat loss, and potential contamination. 

Stertil Stokvis engineers carried out a full assessment and recommended a complete replacement of the dock shelter components. 

A total of 17 dock shelters were refurbished, including:

• Replacement of air bags
• Installation of correctly sized head and side curtains
• Addition of custom-made dock pads to close remaining gaps

The new curtains were correctly specified for the loading dock, ensuring proper compression without placing unnecessary strain on the air bags.

Custom dock pads were also installed to fill any voids around the vehicle, further improving the overall seal and protecting the building structure.

The refurbished dock shelters now provide a consistent and reliable seal across all loading bays, helping to protect goods and operations from external weather conditions while reducing energy loss from the facility.
